Mas denso y salado, reflexiona sobre ese sedimento tan particular, la sal, como un elemento omnipresente tanto en nuestro cuerpo como en nuestro territorio. Se centra también en las plantas halófitas (plantas adaptadas a medios salinos) como embajadoras de los espacios de transición entre tierra y mar.

Cruzando campos de conocimiento como la oceanografía, la botánica, la agronomía, la cerámica, la filosofía y el arte, este proyecto invitó a la comunidad educativa, tanto al alumnado como al profesorado del IES Professor Broch i Llop de Vila-real, a una reflexión colectiva activa, a través de un proceso abierto que funcionó como una herramienta de aprendizaje conjunto y que incitó a tener una mirada curiosa y creativa sobre medio ambiente.

Así pues, dos clases de primero de bachillerato artístico y científico trabajaron en paralelo desde enero hasta junio de 2023, formando parte de diversas experiencias; realización de objetos (herbario, cianotipias, piezas cerámicas, dibujos), lecturas, visitas de campo al Jardín Botánico de Valencia y al Saler, investigaciones cartográficas, observaciones al microscopio, etc.

A su vez, cada mes se generaba un espacio de encuentro y diálogo con agentes de varios ámbitos profesionales e instituciones emblemáticas como las botánicas Pilar Soriano i Elena Estrelles del Jardí Botànic de la Universitat de València, el investigador Jose Miguel de Paz del Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias, la investigadora científica Rosa Balbín Chamorro del Instituto Español de Oceanografía, el ceramista Jaime Romero Tramoyeres de Jarom Ceràmics además de contar con la colaboración y asesoramiento de Alicia Rodríguez Boado y  Almudena Millán Nuez, ambas profesoras en la Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Castellón.



Finalmente, el conjunto de experiencias compartidas, entrevistas, charlas, talleres, visitas, se ve plasmado en esta publicación que tiene como objetivo divulgar, transmitir y narrar una visión poliédrica y sensible de la investigación y del territorio que habitamos.

Denser and Saltier is an interdisciplinary study on salt, which is a very particular sediment that is omnipresent in both our body and in this region. It also focuses on halophyte plants (which have adapted to saline environments) as ambassadors of the transition spaces between land and sea.

Criss-crossing fields of knowledge such as oceanography, botany, agronomy, ceramics, philosophy and art, this project invited the educational community, including students and teachers from the IES Professor Broch i Llop secondary school in Vila Real, to actively reflect upon the matter, via an open process that acted as a shared learning tool and which encouraged an inquisitive and creative look at the environment.

To do so, two first-year classes of artistic and scientific baccalaureate (upper secondary education) worked simultaneously from January to June 2023, taking part in various experiments; making objects (a herbarium, cyanotypes, ceramic pieces and drawings) and carrying out readings, field visits to the Botanical Garden of Valencia and El Saler, cartographic research, microscope observations, etc.

Each month there was also a meeting and dialogue with parties from various professional fields and emblematic institutions such as the botanists Pilar Soriano and Elena Estrelles from the University of Valencia’s Botanical Garden, the researcher Jose Miguel de Paz from the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research, the scientific researcher Rosa Balbín Chamorro from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the ceramicist Jaime Romero Tramoyeres from Jarom Ceràmics, as well as collaboration and advice from Alicia Rodríguez Boado and Almudena Millán Nuez, both lecturers at the Higher School of Art and Design of Castellón (EASD).

Finally, the series of shared experiences, interviews, talks, workshops and tours is now being presented in this publication, which aims to disseminate, transmit and narrate a many-sided, sensitive view of the study and the region where we live.
